Chapter Eight

Mara began teasing Lucy as soon as they woke up the next morning and she found out who Lucy had been out with so late the night before. It didn't matter how many times Lucy assured her sister that all they'd done was plan her bachelorette party. Mara seemed to think it was adorable and hilarious that Elia had walked Lucy back to the resort all the way to her door.

Lucy's thoughts went back to the night before as they’d gotten off the elevator and walked down the hall to her room. She’d felt unsure about what she’d do if Elia leaned in for a kiss. A moonlit walk on the beach, the easy conversation, Elia putting her mind at ease, even as she’d asked him many of the hard questions that had been plaguing her—it had all been a recipe for romance or, in Lucy's case, disaster. But she'd worried for nothing because Elia didn't even come close to making a move before leaving her at her hotel room door.

So there was definitely no reason for Mara to tease Lucy. Other than maybe the fact that Lucy had wanted Elia to kiss her. Or the fact that she was beginning to forgive Elia for what he'd done. Why did he have to be so good and kind? And have such a cool family? She knew her wall against the man should stand firm. But even as she tried to secure it, she could feel it crumbling. Lucy was an idiot.

However, Mara's teasing ended abruptly when the sisters reached the bridesmaids' room.

"You do the stair stepper at the gym for an hour. What's the difference?" Kandy asked as she pulled her short red hair back into a ponytail. Many of the extra strands fell around her face, but the breath Kandy blew out told Lucy that was as good as it was going to get.

"The difference? I'm in an air-conditioned gym. Not on the side of some God-forsaken mountain. And the bugs," Ana moaned.

"I've been assured the trail isn't too difficult," Mara said, but Ana just rolled her eyes.

For someone so against a hike, Ana sure looked ready to take on the mountain in her fluorescent yellow sports bra and matching legging shorts. At least there was no way the group would lose her.

Kandy and Piper wore equally bright outfits, Kandy in green and Piper in pink, but both had leggings that reached their ankles and tank tops over their sports bras.

Mara's and Lucy's outfits were almost identical to the bridesmaids and one another, except Lucy wore all black to Mara's all white. Lucy had already warned her sister she'd probably be wearing brown from head to toe by the time they finished their hike, but Mara was intent on looking bridal the entire week. And Lucy couldn't fault her for that. When would she
